All the primary duties within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department and the Medical Center. JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Trauma Registrar is responsible for the overall coordination and development of data collection systems, managing the Trauma Registry, and supervising the trauma registrar. The lead registrar assumes the responsibility of assuring the accuracy, validity, and reliability of the data that is collected and entered into the trauma registry to support performance improvement of the trauma program. This person also participates in monthly Trauma Committee meetings and quarterly state trauma meetings, providing data reports as needed. The lead registrar provides consultation to physicians, nurses, case managers, and other heath care providers. The lead registrar also facilitates clinical research to address trauma care needs. This person ensures that data is retrieved, entered, and analyzed in accordance with state and national mandated regulations to ensure that NHRMC maintains its Trauma Center status. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: 1. Oversees the development and integration of a comprehensive injury surveillance system utilizing multiple data sources. Assigns duties, and supervises Trauma Registrar. 2. Coordinates the collection, verification, entry, and retrieval of trauma data. 3. Maintains active participation in the Trauma Committee and the performance improvement process. 4. Facilitates data research and collaborates with Medical Director and Trauma Services Team. 5. Functions as a resource consultant in the area of database management on a state and national level. 6. Identifies trauma patients, constructs abstract charts, maintains ICD-9CM injury codes, enters data into database. Administers similar duties to registrar. 7. Participates in monthly validity and quality assurance activities to ensure accuracy of trauma registry data. Have ability to present trauma registry reports to a wide variety of audiences (local, regional and state.) 8. Retrieves trauma registry data for assigned projects, reports, research, and data analysis. 9. Maintains and demonstrates professional competency, according to state regulations, department policies, procedures and protocols. 10. Assists Director of Trauma Services in coordination of all data required for the Trauma Site Survey. 11. Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of the medical center on a daily basis. 12. Performs other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB SPECIFICATIONS: 1. Education: Minimum of Associate Degree in Health Information Management, related degree, or minimum of 10 years medical experience. Working knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9 coding. 2. Licensure / Certifications: Certification in medical coding and AIS (Abbreviated Injury Severity Score) preferred. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) preferred within 12 months of hire. 3. Experience: A minimum of five years experience in health care required. Previous database management required, trauma registry preferred. 5 years experience with Emergency Department, critical care and/or Operating Room required. 5 years experience with computers and statistical analysis required. Management/Supervisory experience preferred. Expert in the Trauma Registry database preferred.
