Medical Director – Specialty Care
Responsible for providing leadership to specialty care practices within UNC Physicians Network (UNCPN); working in a professional dyad with the respective director of operations and other partnerships (regional managers, practice medical directors, etc.); and promoting and facilitating patient and staff safety, quality and performance improvement activities, as well as excellent value-based patient care. This position reports to the Network Medical Director - East.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Oversee and execute maintenance and improvement of key areas within practices.
Provide guidance and leadership for quality improvement guidelines and programs.
Evaluate and implement clinical re-design initiatives that foster the consistent delivery of high-value care.
Participate in physician/APP leadership committees.
Regularly attend practice meetings for staff and clinicians.
Appropriately address concerns regarding the behavior, performance, and/or impairment of physicians and APPs.
Improve and maintain effective coding and documentation to facilitate patient care and reimbursement from payers.
Improve and maintain the efficient use and design of IT and HER systems, including physician education, to allow patient care to be rewarding and facilitated by a high-functioning EHR.
Provide evaluation and feedback to practice medical directors to improve patient care, practice operations and overall processes of care.
Participate in and promote activities to recruit and retain the best physicians and APPs.
Serve as a subject matter expert in modern specialty care practice, especially as it relates to optimizing the utilization of specialists within the modern health care team and in value-based health care reimbursement environments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
MD or DO from an accredited institution with Board Certification in a medical, surgical, or other specialty discipline is required. Master’s degree in health administration, public health, business administration, finance or related field is preferred, but an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Five years of clinical experience is required, as well as other formal leadership roles within a healthcare system, hospital and/or medical group.
